YAKIMA, Wash. – A seven-run 7th inning helped the Pippins to a 10-1, non-league victory over the West Coast Guns Thursday night at Yakima County Stadium.

After falling behind 1-0 in the 2nd, the Pippins (26-22 overall/23-22 West Coast League) scored three times in the 3rd, keyed by a two-run triple for Freddy Smith.

With starter Alhanon Miller settling in, the Pippins offense backed him up with an explosive 7th inning. The Pippins unloaded on reliever Jared Welander and scored seven times on just two hits to gain a comfortable cushion. Six different Pippins had an RBI in Thursday’s game, led by three from Freddy Smith.

Pippins pitching allowed just three hits in the win and only one after the 2nd inning. Yakima Valley also scored in double figures for the first time since July 11 against the Thurston County Senators.

The Pippins return to regular season play Friday, beginning a six-game road trip in Longview, Washington against the Cowlitz Black Bears (18-27), who have lost seven of their last eight games. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:05 pm and Jens Jensen is scheduled to start for the Pippins.
