Zags, Dawgs Go Dancing, Pac-12 Gets Three Teams In Tourney
The field of 68 teams has been selected for the 2019 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and to little surprise, the Gonzaga Bulldogs received one of the four top seeds.
What was a bit more tenuous was if the Pac-12 regular-season champion Washington Huskies would make it at all after losing the conference tournament final to the Oregon Ducks Saturday night. The Ducks (23-12), an automatic bid, were given a No. 12 seed and placed in the South bracket where they will face the No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers (23-10) of the Big 10.
The Huskies, as well as the Arizona State Sun Devils, passed the selection committee's muster, giving the Pac-12 a total of three teams in the tourney. Washington (26-8) was tagged with a No. 9 seed and will play Friday in Columbus, Ohio, coming through the Midwest bracket. They will face No. 8 Utah St. (28-6). The winner of that will likely face No. 1 North Carolina in the second round. Gonzaga (30-3) is top dog in the West for the third time in school history and the second time in the past three years. They will play the winner of a play-in game between Farleigh Dickinson and Prairie View A&M on Thursday in Salt Lake City.
The other three No. 1 seeds are the Duke Blue Devils (East), the Virginia Cavaliers (South) and the North Carolina Tar Heels (Midwest).
