Toys for Tots

If you bring the toys, the Steve Hahn Auto Group will have the coffee and treats waiting first thing Friday morning (Dec. 13). The Yakima dealership, 1730 S. First St., is again the site of the annual Toys for Tots event. It runs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and it's hosted by the Yakima Toys for Tots Foundation.

Even though things will get rolling before sunup, they're expecting a crowd. Among the esteemed guests: Santa Claus, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and the Grinch. (Wait -- who invited HIM?) They're also expecting  a contingent from the Marine Corps, which will bring in a seven-ton MTVR 7! (Low miles -- one owner.)

A number of community leaders, including representatives of local nonprofits and social agencies, will also be there. They'll all have one goal in mind: raising donations of cash or new, unwrapped toys for Yakima's Toys for Tots Christmas drive, which provides gifts for local kids who might otherwise face a pretty bleak holiday.

In past years, the event has brought in enough donated toys to fill up several cars in the showroom. Hopes are high and needs are great this year, too.

So load up as many toys as you can carry -- or whatever cash you can spare -- and stop by the lot on your way in to work tomorrow.
