It's a tough business. Playing in the NFL is not for the timid and certainly not without its risks and rewards.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, reigning Super Bowl MVP knows this all too well.

Los Angeles Rams Superstar Cooper Kupp Sidelined with Leg Injury

The Los Angeles Rams not only suffered another loss, this time to the NFC rival Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but they also suffered the loss of their superstar wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who suffered a potentially season-ending leg injury in the 4th quarter.

Kupp, a graduate of Yakima's Davis High School and Eastern Washington University, sustained what Rams coach Sean McVay referred to as a high ankle sprain. The injury required surgery on Wednesday involving what is known as a tightrope procedure. This is where strong sutures are used to stabilize the ankle, ostensibly doing the work for the damaged ligament.

What Are The Implications for LA Rams and Fans With Cooper Kupp's Surgery?

There's normally a 5 to 6-week recovery time, which would lead us to nearly the end of the regular season, at the earliest by Christmas. The Rams, now 3-6 on the season and at the bottom of the NFC West, would likely not be in a rush to put Cooper back on the field if the season was turning out to be a total loss by that point anyway.

That's a tough pill to swallow not just for the Rams, LA fans, and those of us who root for the hometown sensation. It's really hitting fantasy football fanatics hard. Remember, Cooper Kupp was a Triple Crown receiver last year, Super Bowl MVP, and was, in spite of a lackluster season so far for the Rams, racking up impressive stats of his own. I'm not a fantasy football guru, but I'd plan on Kupp prioritizing getting healthy and fully recovering before I'd expect to see him back on the field this season.
