Seahawks Lose O.T. Heartbreaker in Arizona, 37-34 [PHOTOS/VIDEO]
Save for the 1972 Miami Dolphins, no NFL team has ever gone undefeated for an entire season. The 2020 Seahawks chance to replicate that amazing feat came crashing to earth in week 7 with a heartbreaking 37-34 loss in overtime to their NFC West rivals the Arizona Cardinals in front of a nationally televised audience on NBC Sports Sunday Night Football telecast.
Despite rolling up nearly 600 yards of total offense, Russell Wilson had some atypical judgements in throwing three interceptions on the night. That despite connecting with wide receiver Tyler Lockett for three touchdowns.
One of the interceptions occured when the Hawks were looking to punch it in when they had the ball on the Arizona three yard line. Wilson floated a pass to running back Chris Carson that looked destined to give Seattle a commanding 20-7 lead with (;09 remaining in the first half of play. Instead, the ball was picked off by former Washington Huskies standout Budda Baker. Baker raced down the sideline for what looked to be an easy "pick 6".
Enter D.K. Metcalf. Yes, THAT D.K. Metcalf that. earlier this season, had one of the biggest blunders of the year when he thought he had an easy touchdown only to have the ball knocked out after slowing down.
This time, Metcalf, simply, did not give up on the play.
The Seahwks defense stiffened after the inspiring play and held the Cardinals scoreless on that possession.
Head Coach Pete Carroll called it one of the most remarkable football plays that he has ever seen:
The road doesn't get any easier for the Seahawks as the next face another NFC West opponent next Sunday (Nov.1) when the San Francisco 49ers visit the Clink. the Hawks then travel to Buffalo and visit the LA Rams before getting a Thursday night rematch at home against the same Cardinals.
