Mariners Top Prospects Make Debut Vs. Cleveland Thursday [VIDEO]
The Seattle Mariners took their first glimpse into a hopefully brighter future on Thursday (May 13) night when they opened a four-game series at T-Mobile Park in Seattle against the Cleveland Indians with the Major League debuts of top prospects Jarred Kelenic and Logan Gilbert.
Outfielder Kelenic, the #4 overall prospect in MLB, and Gilbert (#28) were both called-up from AAA Tacoma to join the club simultaneously and play in their first big league game together. Both players were picked in the 2018 amateur draft.
Gilbert, 24 years-old, pitched four innings while giving up 4 runs in a 4-2 loss against the Tribe. Gilbert gave up two home runs and five hits overall in his stint while striking out 5 and walking none.
Meanwhile, Kelenic, 21, went 0-for-4 at the plate while recording an out playing in left field. In his very first at-bat, Kelenic stung the first pitch he saw down the right field line but the ball was caught on an incredible catch in foul territory by Indians outfielder Josh Naylor who tumbled head-over-heels into the stands to record the out.
