Hot Water: Pressure to Move Tokyo Olympics Open-water Venue
(AP) - The International Olympic Committee moved next year’s Tokyo Olympic marathons and race walks out of the Japanese capital to avoid the stifling heat and humidity. Now some swim bodies are asking that something similar be done with the distance-swimming venue in Tokyo Bay. Water temperatures in test events this summer were consistently near the danger level. Local organizers and the world governing body FINA say they have no “B Plan.” The IOC has also promised there will be no more venue changes.
