Weightlifting Risks Being Dropped From 2024 Paris Olympics

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The IOC has again warned weightlifting’s troubled governing body the sport faces being dropped from the 2024 Paris Olympics. The International Olympic Committee wants weightlifting's doping and leadership issues to be dealt with. The IOC says the situation is "becoming increasingly serious” and advice is not being taken. Weightlifting's irregular finances and doping cover-ups under long-time president Tamás Aján were exposed last year. The sport was already tarnished by more than 50 positive doping tests in reanalysis from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. The IOC previously cut 1 weightlifting event and 64 athlete entries from the Tokyo Olympics.
