A couple of weeks ago, we alerted you to a car wash fundraiser that the Yakima's local rugby team - the Griffins - were putting on to raise money for their trip to the state championship tournament.

How'd they do?

Not sure about a grand total for the car wash, but clearly they raised enough money to get to Tacoma last weekend for the RUGBYWA state playoff on May 19th and 20th at the Portland Avenue Play Fields.

On Saturday, the Griffins defeated the Prairie Highlanders 53-19 to advance to the finals. On Saturday, Yakima won the Washington State Rugby Championship by beating the Shelton Savages 55-10.

The Griffins finished the season with a 10-1 record, outscoring their opponents 275-91.

Four members of the club were chosen for the Northwaest all-star team (Ronnie Roosendaal, Tyler Enfield, Steven Stiekma and Darion Taylor).

After collecting their hardware, Yakima will head to Boise, Idaho on June 3 to play in front of national team selectors as well as other territorial teams.

Congrats to all the Griffins!
