While not surprising, it still casts a pall over another group of Seniors who may miss out on their final year of organized sports and competition with their peers. The Class of 2020 definitely took it in the shorts when school got postponed/canceled back in March.

I truly feel sorry for them.

I know how much it hurt me not being able to watch my son play baseball for the first time in his life this past Spring. He had just made the Junior Varsity squad as a Freshman at East Valley High School before the year had the plug pulled on it. Luckily, for him, he still has time on his side to play. More than just competition, sports creates camaraderie. For Drew, my son, many of the kids he was to play ball with have been on the same teams since they were little tykes.

The WIAA announcement puts into jeopardy such called "high risk" activities like football, cheerleading/dance/drill. Last year my boy switched from football to cross country which may be a blessing as that sport has been deemed "low risk". Here are all fall sports and their likelihood of having a complete season according to the WIAA.

FOOTBALL (HIGH RISK)
CHEERLEADING (HIGH RISK)
DANCE AND DRILL (HIGH RISK)
VOLLEYBALL (MODERATE RISK)
SOCCER (MODERATE RISK)
SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL (MODERATE RISK)
CROSS COUNTRY (LOW RISK)
SWIMMING & DIVING (LOW RISK)
