The Yakima Valley Pippins' bats went cold with runners in scoring position Friday afternoon in Walla Walla.

The Pippins left eight runners stranded in a 3-1 loss to the Walla Walla Sweets. The Sweets' Kevin Morgan two-run home run in the second inning was the highlight of the Sweets' offense, putting the home team up 2-0 early.

The Pippins (17-11 overall, 14-9 West Coast League) got on the scoreboard in the third inning, when Ryan Yamane hit a triple then scored on a Shawn Wardian groundout. In the second half of the third, with Walla Walla leading 2-1, the Sweets notched another run, scoring on a wild pitch by the Pippins' Beau Kerns.

Both teams' pitching became even more difficult to hit after the third inning.

Saturday's game between the Pippins and Sweets will be at 7:05 p.m. in Walla Walla, with a 6:55 p.m. pregame. Hear it on 1460 ESPN Yakima.
