PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Timbers have signed midfielders Darlington Nagbe and Diego Chara to contract extensions.

Nagbe and Chara were starters last season when the Timbers won the MLS Cup with a 2-1 victory over Columbus. Portland opens this season at home against the Crew on Sunday.

The two have been with the Timbers since the team's inaugural season in 2011.

Nagbe, who last season made his debut with the U.S. national team, has 160 appearances with the Timbers. He's scored 23 goals and 20 assists, and had the assist for the game-winner in last season's MLS title game.

Chara has started in 145 games for Portland, with six goals and 13 assists.

The Timbers used targeted allocation money for the extensions. Terms were not released.
