PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Thorns midfielder Tobin Heath has been named the National Women's Soccer League Player of the Month for April.

Heath, who plays on the World Cup-winning U.S. national team, had three assists in two games as the Thorns opened the season 1-0-1.

In the season-opening 2-1 victory over the Orlando Pride, she fed Dagny Brynjarsdottir with the equalizer before an assist on Lindsey Horan's game winner. She assisted Horan again on a game-tying goal for a 1-1 draw against FC Kansas City.

It is Heath's first Player of the Month award and the second overall for the Thorns: Forward Christine Sinclair won in April 2013.

Heath was selected for the honor in a poll of media members who cover the team.
