The Latest From Wimbledon
LONDON (AP) — The second Monday at Wimbledon is, arguably, the busiest day in tennis. All 16 fourth-round matches at the All England Club are being played today.
Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams returned to the quarterfinals at the All England Club with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over 19-year-old Ana Konjuh of Croatia. The 37-year-old Williams made her Grand Slam debut at the 1997 French Open, seven months before Konjuh was born.
Garbine Muguruza eliminated Angelique Kerber from the Wimbledon tournament, a result that means the German will lose her No. 1 ranking. Muguruza, the 2016 French Open champion, beat Kerber 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the fourth round on No. 2 Court.
Svetlana Kuznetsova was the first player to reach the quarterfinals. Jelena Ostapenko and Magdalena Rybarikova also advance.
