One of the greatest professional baseball players to ever come out of Central Washington, Mel Stottlemyre Sr., reportedly passed away Sunday in Seattle at the age of 77 after a decades-long bout with cancer.

As new field manager Scott Servais met with the local press today, the Seattle Mariners announced the hiring of Prosser-born Mel Stottlemyre, Jr. as the club's new pitching coach entering the 2016 season.
