Slight says a record-breaking 146 overdose deaths in 2024 broke the record of 96 overdose deaths in 2023.

According to Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice, 82 people have lost their lives to overdoses this year, with 35 of those deaths directly attributed to fentanyl.

All total, Jim Curtice says the county saw 94 overdose deaths last year nearly tying with 2021 when a record 95 overdose deaths were reported in the valley.

So far this year 61 people have died of a drug overdose. The number was 54 at the end of last month.
