Steal a Base, Steal a Taco – World Series Game 1 on Taco Tuesday

Here's the deal.

Steal a base, steal a taco. Taco Bell's Fall Classic promotion is back for its 9th consecutive year.

It's pretty simple, in Game One tonight of the World Series, or in any subsequent World Series contest if it does not happen tonight, when any player from either team is successful in stealing a base, you will get a free Taco Bell Doritos Locos Taco.

For this year’s promotion, fans will be able to score their free Doritos Locos Taco within hours after the first successful bag swipe via a code on the Taco Bell app and then they'll have their own unique redemption period.

Additionally, and for fans that prefer to keep the Doritos Locos Taco tradition alive, Taco Bell will be offering free tacos in-restaurant at participating locations nationwide on October 28, 2020 – if a base is stolen.

It should be noted that at least one Tri-Cities Taco Bell is under a major renovation, so make sure when its time to redeem your freebie, you go to a store that is actually in operation.

And here's hoping the Fall Classic is as competitive as the respective series' to clinch the pennant, as both went to a decisive Game 7. In the ALCS, the Tampa Bay Rays almost joined the New York Yankees, and today, October 20th, is the anniversary of Game 7 in the 2004 utter NYY collapse where the Boston Red Sox came back from a three-games-to-none deficit in the series to rout the Bronx Bombers to advance to, and eventually win, that year's World Series. It's the first and only time a team has come back from 3-0 in a League Championship Series, or a World Series.

There was almost a repeat of that in the 2020 ALCS as those sign-stealin'-trash-can-bangin' Houston Astros crawled out of 3-0 hole only to lose Game 7 to the Rays. Tampa Bay has made the World Series one other time, losing in 2008 to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Dodgers are in the World Series for the third time in the past four years, but the last time the Dodgers actually won the title, pitcher Orel Hershiser was the series MVP and a gimpy Kirk Gibson smacked an improbable HR off Dennis Eckersley to win Game 1 against the Oakland A's.

That was 1988.

In the picture below, that was 2018. When Mookie Betts played for the Red Sox, he spiffed America with a swiped bag and a free Taco Bell Doritos Locos Taco. He now plays for the Dodgers, maybe he'll be da man, again.

My favorite moment of baseball's 2020 Post Season so far is Will Smith hitting a home run off Will Smith to begin a Dodgers comeback with L.A. down in games 3-1 last Friday night against Atlanta. Even the actor, Will Smith, started trending quickly on social media for a Will Smith trifecta after the L.A. catcher went yard against the Atlanta pitcher (Will Smith v. Will Smith).

The Dodgers haven't lost since. Cody Bellinger had to have his shoulder popped back into place after he dislocated it bashing forearms with teammates in a hyper-happy post HR trot that put his team up 4-3 in Game 7 against Atlanta. That moment turned out to win the pennant for the Dodgers and Bellinger is supposedly okay to play.

And this is the time of year where Seattle Mariners fans are once again reminded of the all-too-painful fact that the M's have never even BEEN to a World Series, the ONLY club in the Majors that has never even had a taste of what it's like to lose on that stage.
