SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane has been chosen to host an international figure skating competition called the Team Challenge Cup.

The event will be held next April 22-24.

The three-day event will feature 42 of the top figure skaters in the world competing in a format of Team North America vs. Team Europe vs. Team Asia.

Previously, the 2007 and 2010 U.S. figure skating championships were held at the Spokane Arena, and are the two best-attended in history.

U.S. Figure Skating and Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment announced the selection on Wednesday.

U.S. Figure Skating President Sam Auxier says the team format has proven to be a successful way to engage the fans of skating.
