One made a furious comeback while the other held on down the stretch. In the final analysis, however, two Yakima Valley basketball squads - the Selah Vikings Boys and the Sunnside Grizzlies girls - both moved closer to their classification's championship round.

The Lady Grizzlies scored 24 unanswered points in beating Auburn Riverside 55-46 in the Tacoma Dome in the 4A tourney yesterday. They will now face #3 seed Glacier Peak in a quarter final tilt tonight at approximately 7:15.

The Selah Boys, as heard live earlier today on 1460 ESPN Yakima, jumped out to as much as a 15 point lead before hanging on to topple sixth-seeded North Kitsap 62-54 in the quarters in the 2A tournament being held at the Yakima Valley SunDome. Sophomore Elijah Pepper led all scorers with 34 points, whilst snagging eight boards, three steal and a couple of assists.

The Vikings play the winner of Prosser vs. Olympic (currently tied in the 4th quarter as of this publication) tomorrow in the state semifinals at 3:45 p.m. You can hear the game live on 1460-AM ESPN Yakima, streaming live at 1460ESPNYakima.com or via their free mobile app.

Local veteran play-by-play broadcaster Mike Bastinelli will have the call powered by Yakima Federal Savings and Loan.
