LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — The Redskins will try to keep moving toward an NFC wildcard spot when they host Carolina in the Monday Night Football game.

Washington is 7-5-1 and can move into the second wildcard spot with a victory over the defending NFC champs. The Redskins can lock up a playoff spot if they win out with victories over the Panthers, Bears and Giants.

Following their Super Bowl appearance earlier this year, the Panthers were hoping to be a playoff contender again, but find themselves in the NFC South basement with a 5-8 record.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is expected to play after dealing with a right shoulder injury that limited his practice time leading up to the game. Star linebacker Luke Kuechly  practiced all week after being cleared from the league's concussion protocol, but may be kept on the sidelines as a precaution.
