In a weekend where the Seahawks, Huskies and Cougars all stumbled, the Seattle Sounders FC redeemed the Pacific Northwest sports world with a miraculous comeback against Minnesota United in the Western Conference Final at Lumen Field in Seattle Monday (December 7) night.

For much of the night, however, it looked like the Grinch would steal every last bit of joy as the Loons took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Bakaye Dibassy in the 67th minute.

After Coach Brian Schmetzer made some key substitutions, the Sounders began to play more fluidly and the comeback started to coalesce.
Will Bruin got Seattle back within striking distance in minute 75 and fan-favorite Raúl Ruidíaz sent Sounders fans into a frenzy with his equalizer in the final minute of regulation. It was just four minutes later that a piece of Seattle sports lore occurred.

Relive the highlights:

Gustav Svensson's header off of a corner kick, assisted by Nicolás Lodeiro, at the 93-minute mark in stoppage time galvanized one of the greatest comebacks in MLS -- and Seattle sports -- history.
Per ESPN Stats & Research, prior to this year, no team had ever won a playoff game in which it trailed at the end of 88 minutes.
As they say, "...and the fans went wild!"

All that was left at that point was to hoist the cup...

...and take a champagne shower!

The match is already being described as an instant classic.

"In our Sounders history, this is going to go down as one of the best games ever."

An unforgettable evening under the lights at Lumen Field. ⚡️
