Portland Leaves Little Doubt in 89-52 Rout of Walla Walla U
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Josh McSwiggan scored 12 points and D'Marques Tyson and Rashad Jackson each added another dozen off the bench as Portland earned its first victory of the season by beating NAIA member Walla Walla University 89-52 on Tuesday night.
The Pilots, who saw a seven-point lead evaporate in the final three minutes of their 80-75 loss to Portland State on Saturday, left nothing to chance against the Wolves. Portland stormed to a 19-point halftime lead and poured it on in the second half, outscoring Walla Walla 50-32 in the final 20 minutes.
Philipp Hartwich added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Portland shot a crisp 34 of 60 from the field (56.7 percent), including 12 of 28 from behind the 3-point arc (42.9 percent).
Meanwhile, the Pilots defense checked the Wolves on 28.8 percent shooting from the floor (19 of 66), including 13 of 42 (31 percent) from 3-point range.
