The pitching arms of Andrew Woods, Kenny Rosenberg and Nick Kern combined for 14 strikeouts to hold off the Walla Walla Sweets in a 2-1 win for the visiting Yakima Valley Pippins on Thursday.

Playing small ball the first innings, the Pippins used three bunts to get runners on third and second, then Reed Martinez drove in a run on an RBI groundout.

In the fourth inning, Walla Walla finally got on the scoreboard when Jordan Frabasilio scored on an RBI double from Andrew Mendenhall to make it 1-1

In the 10th, Alex Guenette got on base by being hit by a pitch. Shawn Wardian beat out a bunt and on a wild throw, Guenette landed on third base. He then scored on an RBI single by Mitch Skaggs to make the final 2-1 Pippins.

The win raised the Pippins' record to 17-10 overall, 14-8 in West Coast League play.

The two teams play again at 1:05 p.m. today in Walla Walla. Listen in on 1460 ESPN Yakima.
