MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Major league pitchers have been tinkering with the ball for years in search of an advantage, occasionally breaking major league rules in the process. But they might have to work a little harder on their deception this summer. Major League Baseball is reminding teams about what is allowed and what violates its rules on what pitchers are allowed to do to the ball. It also has gone over possible discipline for violations and the duties of the umpires in those situations. Chicago Cubs pitching coach Tommy Hottovy says he thinks Major League Baseball plans to “crack down a little bit more” on foreign substances on the mound.
