Margot Robbie Has Tonya Harding’s Attitude on Lock in This Great Set Video
In case you haven’t heard, Margot Robbie is currently filming I, Tonya, a new biopic in which she plays disgraced former figure skating champ Tonya Harding. Although it’s a little disappointing that Anne Hathaway wasn’t cast as Nancy Kerrigan (I mean, come on), Robbie’s new film (which she’s also producing) is still riding high near the top of my most-anticipated list — and a new video from the set really seals the deal.
TMZ originally posted the video, which has since made its way to YouTube. In it, you can see Robbie as Harding, the ambitious underdog skater who came from a blue collar background and often had to make her own costumes — unlike her fellow skaters (like Kerrigan), who came from more privileged backgrounds and could afford extravagant outfits. That’s the subject at hand in this scene, in which Harding takes a figure skating judge to task and ends the exchange by shouting “Suck my d—!”
It’s great:
Robbie really nails Harding’s attitude, even if she doesn’t totally have her accent down. The actress has been training pretty hard on the ice for her role in the film, which traces the rise and fall of Harding, a skater who was stripped of her titles when she was found guilty of hindering the prosecution following a brutal attack on Nancy Kerrigan — an attack perpetrated by Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and her bodyguard, Shawn Eckhardt.
Sebastian Stan is playing the role of Gillooly in the upcoming film, which also stars Allison Janney, Caitlin Carver and Julianne Nicholson. Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm) is directing from a screenplay by Steven Rogers (Love the Coopers). I, Tonya has yet to receive an official release date, but it’s hard to imagine it won’t arrive during awards season.
