Despite losing their first game in the 2019 Little League World Series tournament to Hawai`i, the team from River Ridge, LA became the first from the Palmetto State to claim the title of champions with a 8-0 whitewash of the International Champions from Curacao in South Williamsport, PA today.
No team since 2001 has lost their first game and eventually won it all.

The Southwest representatives were paced by the blistering bat of Reece Roussel who batted .739 while collecting a Little League World Series record 17 hits in 23 at bats, including 7 doubles - also a records. He finished the tourney with a 7-game hit-streak.

The team as a whole, however, all chipped in offensively as every player got at least one base hit during the series.

Louisiana was also led by a sparkling pitching performance by Egan Prather who unfurled a complete game six inning shutout in which he surrendered just two hits and only walking just two while striking out six batters. Prather only gave up two run in 14 1/3 innings pitched during the tournament.

Prather did have to dispatch Curacao's star player Curley Martha to get the championship-clinching final out which resulted in an epic 11-pitch at bat in which Martha fouled off 10 pitches before lining out to Shortstop Stan Wiltz. Martha was 0-3 in the final game but went 9-21 (.429) with three home runs and 9 RBI in the series.
