There was a time in Yakima where we didn't have any options for sushi. Then, when we finally did, then another popped up... then another, then another, and now we have plenty of options for sushi and I'm all for it.

Sushi definitely isn't for everyone. If you're sushi-curious you can get started with some simple ideas before moving on to 'raw fish'-type sushi (again, not all sushi is raw fish) but we found a roll in Yakima that was completely unique to me.

This is the Summer Roll from Sumo Hibachi and Sushi on Yakima Avenue in Downtown Yakima.

There's no rice and, instead of seaweed, it's wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber making it oddly refreshing. It does feature fish, though. Salmon, yellowtail, and tuna. There's also a ponzu sauce for flavor and a kimchi sauce to give it that zing. I thought it was great and something unique.

Since we didn't just get sushi we grabbed a few other things, too, like the chicken fried rice, but this wasn't your typical chicken fried rice. This was hibachi fried rice with teriyaki chicken on top which was amazing.

I also ordered the pork katsu. It's a pork cutlet, fried, with an awesome dipping sauce. One of my favorite dishes at any restaurant that carries it.

There's plenty of reason to return to Sumo Hibachi and Sushi. I need to try the other rolls on the menu, too.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery.
