Like I've done in the past when I review products, I feel the need for transparency. The following is in NO WAY a paid advertisement for this brand of chips or any chips (even though I firmly believe all types of chips rule). That being said, this is in NO WAY a paid advertisement AGAINST this brand of chips by their possible competitors.

My friend, Gloria Fry, told my wife and I about a new Lays flavor of chips. They were FUNYUNS WAVY onion-flavored chips. I love onion rings; I'll eat Funyuns, but they're not the typical chips/snacks I reach for. My wife, on the other hand, LOVES Funyuns. She was all in.

Qualifications for being a Chip Taste Tester

My qualifications to judge these chips... I'm a fat guy. I've eaten chips. I've eaten many chips. If you see me in public, you will never think, "that man has never eaten a chip in his life." I usually enjoy Doritos, all flavors. That doesn't mean I don't love the Lays chips. BBQ, Classic, and Wavy Hickory BBQ are my favorite. So, of course, I'd give these a try.

Lay's Wavy Funyuns Onion Flavor Taste Test

It's a chip. Does it taste like Funyuns? Kind of. Was it bad? Nope. Is it anything special that I need to run out to the store and buy another bag (this bag was given to us by Gloria)? Nope. Will I grab another bag when I'm out at the store looking for chips because I plan to bored eat? Probably not. If I want Funyuns, I'll buy Funyuns.

A Second Taste Test Opinion

I feel my wife hit the nail on the head with her description. It tasted like a wavy sour cream and onion chip to her. In fact, if you hadn't told her it was Funyuns flavored, she would have assumed it was the normal Lays Sour Cream and Onion flavor, only in wavy form. So if you love SC&O but want a little more wavy crisp… there you go. But kudos to Frito-Lay for trying out new ideas.
