Much like everything in life, live Christmas Tree prices have also been on the rise.

Will that change in the next 4 years? No matter which side of the aisle you’re on, we can all hope so!

Until we can compare with next year at this time, we’ll just have to plan for an emptier wallet.

If you bought a real tree last year, the experts at the American Christmas Tree Association (ACTA) (yes that’s a real thing) are saying that average price will be about 10% more than last year.

The reason for the price increase is pretty simple, everything that goes into growing and maintaining the trees has gone up, therefore, so have the prices of the trees, but depending on where you purchase, you may not notice the difference if the growers and suppliers are filled with Christmas spirit and absorb the additional costs.

Tips For Saving Money On A Christmas Tree

These tips may not seem like rocket science, but when the excitement of officially moving your home into the Christmas season hits, seizing the moment is all you might be thinking about. Luckily, Reader’s Digest has some seasons suggestions when it comes to getting a Christmas Tree.

Ask questions!

Especially about the price! It can be exciting when you’re in the car with the family heading out to find the perfect tree and you may want to grab from the first place you visit, but don’t be afraid to ask questions on prices and avoid impulse buying.

Get A Smaller Tree!

Think about a smaller tree. It makes sense, if you’re wanting a big one, you’re going to pay more money.

Get An Ugly Tree!

Get a tree no one else will want. It'll be unique, special, and cheaper! It worked for Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang!

Shop around!

Different tree lots have different prices. Just because it’s at a big name store, doesn’t mean you’ll get the best savings. The type of store/lot can also impact on how healthy the tree is.

Waiting To Buy!

Not very much fun, but think about candy and decorations for other holidays ON the holiday. MUCH CHEAPER!

Cut your own tree!

A Christmas Tree farm can be a little cheaper, but that falls under the first suggestion. Or you could do like my father and grandfather did and head to the hills!

You’ll need equipment, a permit and an approved area in the wilderness to do so. It probably isn’t any cheaper, but it creates memories!

Fake It!

And as much as I hate to suggest it, it might be worth it to your wallet to get an artificial tree instead.

My first artificial tree was when I was 21 and single. It smelled great, and after Christmas was over, I hung my tree back in my car from the rear-view mirror.
