Yakima County Restaurant Inspections August 2024: Who Made the Cut and Who Didn’t
85 restaurants, convenience stores, grocery stores, and mobile food vendors were inspected for health code violations during the month of August 2024.
One of my worst foodie nightmares is going out to eat and finding a hair in my food or chicken, French fries, and other staples that have been undercooked.
Health code inspectors in Yakima County are always on the lookout to make sure the foods we eat in public places are up to standards. Everything from food temperature to the presence of food handler's cards are thoroughly inspected.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HEALTH CODE COMPLIANCE INSPECTION AND REINSPECTION?
Usually, if a restaurant doesn't pass the first health violation inspection, they have the opportunity to get things up to par on the Yakima County Health District's re-inspection dates.
Occasionally, a food establishment gets put on the list to have a compliance inspection, which is a general check-up to make sure requirements for keeping things sanitized, properly labeled, and stored at correct temperatures are being kept.
Here are some things I've observed as the most common health code violations we have in Yakima County:
Food worker cards not current for all workers
No accurate thermometer
Improper thawing Improper cold holding temperatures
Improper date marking procedures for foods at high risk for listeria
Animals present
Expired or missing Food worker cards
Inadequate handwashing facilities
No certified food protection manager present
Improper toxic substance storage
Only three restaurants failed inspection in August (one in Zillah and the others in Yakima), which is excellent news because there has typically been more than one eatery that fails.
It is very important to note that just because a restaurant fails their initial inspection does not always mean bad news! Each restaurant gets another shot to get a passing score during the following month (or sometimes in a few days after failing the inspection).
