Final Year for Franklin Pool—Yakima Hosts Paws in the Pool Event!
It's almost time for paws in the pool. If you have a dog you'll want to be there. If you don't have a dog you'll want to be there just for the show. A press release from the city of Yakima says human and canine swimmers are invited.
IT'S A GREAT TIME
The annual Paws in the Pool event will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 24th, at the City of Yakima’s Franklin Pool, 2101 Tieton Drive. The event is organized each year by Yakima Parks and Recreation. They say the dogs swim for free but their owners pay the general admission fee.

NO MEAN DOGS CAN SWIM
All dog breeds, shapes and sizes are welcome. Heads up to pet owners make sure your dogs are current on all shots and vaccinations for their safety. You are also responsible for cleaning up any messes your dogs make. City officials say no vicious or aggressive dogs are permitted and that all dogs must be leashed until inside the pool area. Can you give? During Paws in the Pool, donations will be accepted for the Yakima Humane Society.
THE LAST DAY OF OPERATION
August 24 is the last of the pool will be in operation not only for this year but for the future as well. In July the Yakima City Council agreed to close Franklin Pool in 2026 as part of a $3 million cost-cutting package to help address a projected $9 million shortfall. Voters in November will be asked to increase property taxes to raise another $6 million to help fill the budget hole.
