Los Angeles County Bracing For Dangerous Winter Storm, Blizzard

Winter weather continues to wreak havoc throughout many parts of the US this week.

One place that isn't used to hearing of blizzard weather warnings: Los Angeles, CA.

According to the National Weather Service, the Ventura County mountains and Los Angeles County mountains will be hit with stormy conditions rarely seen now through the weekend. There is a Storm Warning that remains in effect through 4 AM Friday, February 24th, and a Blizzard Warning in effect from 4 AM Friday, February 24th through Saturday, February 25th.

What's expected? Very low snow elevation levels, very strong winds, and very cold wind chill levels. These kinds of conditions can be very dangerous if people are caught out in the storm by surprise. As for the Blizzard Warning, it's calling for very heavy snow, gusting winds to 80 miles per hour, and almost zero visibility for motorists. Higher elevations could see as much as 8 feet of snowfall.

Should Travelers be on the Road During The Storm?

No. Not unless there is an extreme emergency say, officials. If you must travel in the area, be sure to let family and friends know of your planned route and expected time of arrival.

It's also advised to keep an emergency preparedness kit of some kind with you in your vehicle at all times. This should include items like a blanket, a flashlight, drinking water, and non-perishable food items. If perchance you become stranded, it's recommended that you stay with your vehicle. This will help you stay warmer and safe until help arrives.
