The top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels flexed their muscles in a convincing 81-59 victory over #9 Washington to advance to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament today. It is Carolina's 29th trip to that round.

Washington, who used defensive turnovers in the first half to only trail by 8 at the intermission, went stone cold from the field in the final 20 minutes. Carolina was powered by Luke Maye's 15th double-double this year in which he went for 20 points and 14 rebounds. Washington was paced by Senior Noah Dickerson who tossed in 10 and grabbed 7 boards.

The Tar Heels will next face the #5 seeded Auburn Tigers. North Carolina head coach Roy Williams advanced to his 19th round of 16, his 10th at UNC.

Washington, making its first tourney appearance since 2011, finishes the campaign with 27 wins - their most since 2004-05 when they collected 29 victories. The Dawgs bid farewell to seniors David Crisp, Matisse Thybulle, Noah Dickerson and Dominic Green.
