Gonzaga Remains Undefeated, Advances to Sweet 16 Vs. Oklahoma
The #1 ranked and undefeated Gonzaga Bulldogs took care of business today to remain perfect on the season and advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA Men's basketball tournament with a convincing win over the Oklahoma Sooners.
Despite shooting a season-worst 49% from the field as a team, the Zags were never really in jeopardy en route to a 87-71 victory over the 8th-seeded Oklahoma Sooners in a second round match-up in the West region of the 2021 NCAA Men's Basketball tournament.
Gonzaga was paced by a career-high 30 points from Drew Timme who recorded a double-double as he also collected 13 rebounds. Timme shot 9 for 12 from the field and went 12 for 14 from the foul line.
After the game, Timme was interviewed on national TV by CBS reporter Lauren Shehad who asked Timme about the wager he had with his mother that stated if the Bulldogs advanced to the Sweet 16, Timme would shave off his Fu Manchu mustache. Timme replied with a chuckle, "That's news to me." Timme's high school coach was also able to attend the game in Indiana in person as well.
Gonzaga will next face the winner of #5 Creighton versus #13 Ohio University.
The West Coast Conference champion Bulldogs, who raised their season record to a spotless 28-0, are looking to become the first team to win the National Championship without a single blemish on their ledger. The last school to do that was Bobby Knight's 1976 Indiana Hoosiers.
