Former Washington State football player Found Not Guilty

COLFAX, Wash. (AP) — Former Washington State football player Robert Barber has been acquitted of assault charges that resulted from a brawl in Pullman last July.

KHQ-TV reported that a Whitman County jury on Tuesday found that Barber was not guilty of assault in the second degree and assault in the fourth degree.

The trial began Monday in Colfax.

Barber, a defensive tackle who graduated from Washington State in December, was accused of punching a man twice, knocking him unconscious and causing a concussion. He contended he acted in self-defense.

Barber was initially kicked out of school after the fight, but was eventually reinstated and allowed to play football last season after an outcry from his supporters.
