GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida has appointed an eight-person search committee to find potential replacements for retiring athletic director Jeremy Foley.

School president Kent Fuchs announced the members Wednesday, saying no search firm will be used in the hiring process.

Former Florida trustee and University Athletic Association board chairman Manny Fernandez will lead the committee.

Fuchs says: "It is important that we identify a slate of qualified candidates who can build on the UAA's previous successes. I am confident the search committee, under the capable leadership of Manny Fernandez, will help us identify the very best."

Once the committee identifies finalists, Florida head coaches and UAA staff will meet with candidates.

Foley announced last week that he is retiring, effective Oct. 1, after a 40-year career at Florida that included the last 25 as AD.
