MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Officials briefly stopped an Oregon high school football game last week because of a drone.

The Medford Mail Tribune reports a black drone with flashing red lights was spotted during the second quarter of Friday's game between Willamette and South Medford.

Referee Jerry Eklund ordered both teams off the field. The stadium announcer, meanwhile, asked several times for the drone operator to make the device fly away. The drone left and the game resumed after a break of less than five minutes.

It is unknown who was responsible. South Medford athletic director Dennis Murphy says someone was probably just having fun, and didn't have malicious intent.

The Oregon School Activities Association recently prohibited the use of drones from one hour before a game through one hour after its completion.
