Finally! It is Opening Week for Major League Baseball! The Stadiums are decorated with Red, White, and Blue bunting. The energy of the day event grows with the chatter of the fans getting ready for the ceremonies. The smell of the ballpark starts to overtake your senses. Hotdogs, popcorn, and the other tasty fair of what the ballpark. has to offer.

Fans looking to see who on the team is warming up on the field. The conversation is non-stop about baseball. The last time I went to an opening day (well, it wasn't the opening day of the season; it was the opening day of the then Safeco Field. Mariners vs Padres, July 15, 1999. Yes, there was more to that story I'll share at a later time.)

I love to listen to the announcers sharing information and stories about the team. I still can hear the voice of Dave Niehaus welcoming the return of baseball in my mind.

This year will be a little extra special for me because due to a story out of Milwaukee the home of the Brewers ( And for those who don't know the Brewers were originally the Seattle Pilots back in 1969 before they moved in 1970 to Milwaukee.)

about one of the best entertaining announcers that ever grace a microphone. The voice of the Brewers since 1971. Mr. Baseball himself, Bob Uecker.

In 1971, Uecker was hired by the Brewers to provide color commentary alongside announcers Merle Harmon and Tom Collins. One day, Uecker was left to do play-by-play coverage, where his talents could not be denied." - The Radio Hall of Fame

Uecker played in the majors from 1962-67 with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, and Philadelphia Phillies, but he became much more famous during his post-playing career.

Bob Uecker and Milwaukee baseball have been together for over half a century. Uecker has celebrated his 50th season of broadcasting in 2020. Bob Uecker was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003, where he received the Ford C. Frick Award as a broadcaster for "major contributions to baseball." His humorous and self-deprecating speech was a highlight of the ceremony.

The Brewers have erected not one but two statues outside of American Family Field to honor Bob. One of the two is a tip of the ball cap; to Bob and his now famous old Miller Lite commercial; where Bob is saying “I must be in the front row!” while being escorted to the back of the upper deck seats.

Bob Uecker has done pretty much all when it comes to baseball and entertainment. From doing national color commentator for ABC and NBC baseball telecasts.

Making many appearances on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, where he received the nickname of Mr. Baseball. Of course those many beer commercials. Uecker starred in an ABC sitcom "Mr. Belvedere" from 1985-90. The icon Harry Doyle, the voice of the lowly Cleveland Indians in the movie "Major League."

Bob Uecker, who is 90 years old has trimmed back on his broadcast duties and is only doing the Brewers home games. The Brewers management has said that they expect Bob behind the mic on April 2nd, for the Brewers home opener, and after that, he'll take it one day at a time.

So I think if you want to listen to a great broadcaster who has everyone field laughing both on and off the baseball field, at his pure genius comedic personality. Now would be the time before Bob decides to step away from the broadcast mic.
