BMX Stunt Team Wows Yakima Valley Crowd [VIDEO, PHOTOS]
Who needs wings when you've got wheels? If you had the kinds of skills and daring that the NW Xtreme Bicycle Stunt Team brought to town during the 2019 Moxee Hop Festival, wings would probably just slow you down anyway.
Dude. Just get a ramp.
Setting up on a course they roped off at the entrance to Moxee City Park, the half-dozen BMX riders drew cheers and gasps with stunts like hopping around on one tire (often the front one) or standing in the saddle like a trick pony rider in a rodeo.
But they drew the biggest cheers when they used a couple of quarter-pipes to pick up speed, bank into turns and catch some serious air, hitting elevations approaching street-light levels before plopping into a huge pad (the "marshmallow").
Knotted around the staging area, people clapped, whistled, yelled and sipped their icy drinks in the heat of an August afternoon in the Yakima Valley. "The louder you get, the more you motivate us," emcee and rider Andrew Ryser encouraged.
And he was right. As it got louder, the riders flew higher. The stoke, as they say, was high.
