Earlier this Fall, the Yakima Valley Pippins Baseball Scout Team was started, featuring high school players from around and beyond Central Washington, with the purpose of helping upstart ballplayers improve their skills outside the normal baseball season and to help prepare high school players for the next steps in their burgeoning baseball careers.

There haven’t been many outlets for high school players to continuing playing baseball in the fall around this area, and we saw an opportunity to provide that,” Pippins general manager Jeff Garretson said.

Roster spots were filled by invitations from Pippins field manager Marcus McKimmy, based on recommendations from coaches around the state in addition to scouts. McKimmy is coaching the scout team with assistance from others who have college or pro coaching/playing experience.

This Sunday, the team will play Yakima Valley College at Parker-Faller Field in a double-header beginning at noon. Admission is free. The team, which is not a feeder squad for the club's summer collegiate wood-bat league team and only plays on weekends so as not to interfere with school, concludes its fall season on Oct. 22.

Local invitees include:
Selah H.S. - Carter Young, Reid Rasmussen, Carter Chapman, Payton Andreas
East Valley H.S. - Shane Maybee
Ellensburg H.S. - Tyler Polacek
West Valley H.S. - Riley Lublin
