A great combined pitching performance by Brandon Williams, Kenny Rosenberg and Nick Kern helped the Yakima Valley Pippins shut down the Bend Elks, 3-1, Saturday night in Bend.

Brandon Williams got his fourth win on the season and Nick Kern notched his third save.

The bats came alive early in the first inning, when Jake Roberts sent the second pitch thrown at him over the left field fence for the first run of the evening by the Pippins. Reed Martinez added two more RBIs, one in the third on a single and another on a safety squeeze bunt. Bend finally got on the board when Nick Lopez hit into a double play for the  only Elks score of the evening.

The win puts the Pippins (19-11 in West Coat League play) four games ahead of the Wenatchee AppleSox and the Walla Sweets, who are tied for second in the East Division.

The Pippins travel to Medford, Ore., next to play the Rogues at 6:35 p.m. Sunday. Pregame starts at 6:25 p.m. on 1460 ESPN Yakima.
