Yakima Beetles To Honor Former Big Leaguer Jay Gainer At Annual Fundraising Auction and Dinner Saturday
The Yakima Pepsi Beetles American Legion baseball program is honoring former Yakima Bears manager and Major Leaguer Jay Gainer at their 2016 fundraising auction and dinner Saturday, April 23rd at the Yakima Valley Hotel.
Gainer, who is just one of 29 players to ever hit a home run on the first pitch he saw in the majors, is being made the guest of honor for his contributions to the game in Yakima. After his pro playing days were over, Gainer eventually became the hitting coach and the field manager for the now defunct Yakima Bears Short-A minor league club in the early and mid-2000's. He currently operates Baseball Advantage, a youth baseball club, here in the valley.
A silent auction and social hour will precede the dinner. Tickets for the event to not only honor Gainer but to support the Beetles are $100 each and are extremely limited. Contact Scott Wilson at 509-307-1746 to purchase.
