Some big news out of the college sports world: The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have moved to the Atlantic Coastal Conference in all sports except football.

Notre Dame has been part of the Big East Conference since 1995, but will now be going to the ACC. The move comes as a bit of a shock, but school officials say that the ACC is the best fit for them.

The football program will remain independent, but as part of the deal, the Irish will now face five ACC opponents a year in football. The school maintains that being part of the ACC will provide them with many advantages, but more likely they were just trying to get out of the dying Big East before it goes belly up.
