The Wenatchee AppleSox squeezed by the Yakima Valley Pippins 3-2 Sunday night to take the first series between the two teams.

The Pippins put two on the board in the first inning, including on an error on a sacrifice bunt by Reed Martinez scored Jake Roberts.

The Pippins showed some flashes of great defense, though, turning a couple of double plays to stop scoring threats by the AppleSox.

But, Wenatchee also showed the flash of the gloves by turning four double plays, three in consecutive innings. In the seventh inning, Wenatchee's Nick Brooks hit a double off the left field wall to cap a three-run inning.

That was all the AppleSox needed.

Next up for the Pippins: A pair of non-league games Monday and Tuesday in Yakima against the Thurston County Senators. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
