In my house, we refer to Opening Day of a new Major League Baseball season as "New Year's Day."

But as a fan of the Seattle Mariners, most of the time the first day of a new campaign is also the last day my team is in first place.

Regardless, hope always springs eternal for baseball fans when the games start to count again and the ol’ hickory meets the hide!

This 60-second promo -- originally recorded in 2008 and voiced by the late, great Hall of Fame and former Mariners broadcaster, Dave Niehaus -- pretty much sums up my sentiment this Opening Day.
