Washington St. Remains Unbeaten With Win Over San Diego St.

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Malachi Flynn had 24 points and Robert Franks added 22 to lead Washington State to the championship of the Wooden Legacy tournament with a 93-86 victory over San Diego State on Sunday night.

The Cougars (6-0) rallied from nine points down midway through the second half to stun the Aztecs (5-2).

Flynn added six assists and five rebounds and was named the tournament MVP. It was the first tourney title for Washington State in eight seasons.

Devin Watson led San Diego State with 23 points and six assists, with Trey Kell scoring 19 and Matt Mitchell 12.

The Aztecs appeared in control with a 73-64 lead with 8:25 to play, but Washington State answered with a 25-9 run to reclaim the lead for good.

The Cougars had also trailed Saint Joseph's by 20 points in their first game of the tournament before rallying to win.

San Diego State outrebounded the Cougars 44-35, but Washington State connected on 13-of-28 3-point attempts. The Aztecs, who entered the game only a 34.0 shooting team from the 3-point line, hit on 8-of-30 3-pointers.

The Aztecs played the entire second half without leading scorer Malik Pope, who appeared to injure his right ankle in the first half.

San Diego State: The Aztecs suffered their first loss in six Wooden Legacy games. They won the tournament in 2013.

Washington State: The unbeaten Cougars were the surprise of the tournament. They are now 6-0 all-time against San Diego State.
