BREMERTON, WA - The Yakima Valley Pippins strung together an impressive two out rally for an early 3-1 lead in the 5th inning, only to watch the same tactic work against them in Sunday night’s 7-3 loss against the Kitsap BlueJackets.

The Yakima Valley Pippins (26-18, 11-6) allowed the final six runs of the ballgame, including three runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, giving the BlueJackets the lead for good, 4-3, at Gene Lobe Field.

Andrew Bernstein (Cal Poly) took the loss throwing five innings allowing four runs, two earned on nine hits. Matt Fish (Lewis-Clark State) entered out of the bullpen giving up two runs over two innings of work, both coming with two outs in the 7th inning. Then Zach Haggett (Central Washington) pitched the 8th, giving up one run.

Jace VanDeBrake (Gonzaga) led the Pippins going 3-5 at the plate with an RBI single, setting up the series finale on Monday night starting at 6:35 p.m. During the 3-run 5th inning, Trevor Achenbach (Oklahoma Wesleyan) provided the two-out spark with a 2-RBI double.

Colton Kelly (Columbia Basin Community College) kickstarted the two-out rally with an infield single in the 5th inning as seven Yakima Valley players posted base hits in the losing effort. Fans can listen to the series finale live on 1460 ESPN Yakima, the official home for Pippins Baseball.
