With the temperature over 100 for the second straight day in Walla Walla, the Yakima Valley Pippins turned up the heat even more, sizzling the Sweets, 12-2, on Wednesday.

Eli Morgan threw a seven-inning, nine-hit performance to get his seventh victory and tie a West Coast League record.

The Pippins started off fast again with a four-run first inning. Reid Martinez, Vince Fernandez, Ryan Rosa and Ryan Yamane all got RBIs to add to a 4-0 Yakima lead. Justin Jacobs hit an RBI single in the second to make it 5-0.

In the third inning the Pippins got three more on RBIs from Yamane and Alex Guenette and suddenly it was 8-0 Pippins. The Sweets put two on the board in the fourth, highlighted by a solo HR from Andrew Mendenhall.

After two more Pippins runs in both the eighth and ninth innings it was all over.

The Pippins (26-18 and alone in first in the East Division) play the Sweets at 7:05 tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 6:55 p.m. on 1460 ESPN Yakima.
