WALLA WALLA – The Yakima Valley Pippins had plenty of offense Wednesday night, but the Sweets produced even more, knocking off the Pippins, 13-8, in the series finale.

The story of the night was the Pippins’ inability to keep Walla Walla (15-15) scoreless immediately after Yakima Valley (17-13) scored runs. The Pippins scored in six different innings Wednesday, but Walla Walla was able to counter with runs in the following half inning five of those times. The Sweets scored three times in the 1st inning and built a 4-2 lead after two innings.

After the Pippins rallied to tie with a run in the 4th and a run in the 5th, the Sweets scored twice. Yakima Valley rallied once again to force a 6-6 tie in the 7th, but the Sweets scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to establish an 11-6 lead.

The Pippins made it a three-run game with two more runs in the 8th, but the Sweets answered once again and scored twice more to help put the game away.

The Pippins dropped the final two games in Walla Walla and have lost their last two road series after winning the first three. Yakima Valley has Thursday off before starting a two-game, non-league series against the Thurston County Senators Friday at 7:05 p.m.
