SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Sounders have signed homegrown star Jordan Morris, convincing the top college player last season to start his professional career in the U.S. rather than overseas. The Sounders announced the long-awaited signing of Morris on social media Thursday ahead of his introduction at a special event. Morris always seemed destined to start his professional career in Seattle after playing for the Sounders' academy, but his professional options expanded as his role in college and with the U.S. national team increased. Morris spurned an opportunity earlier this week to potentially play for Werder Bremen in Germany. Morris was the Hermann Trophy winner as the top college player in the country after helping lead Stanford to its first national title. Morris skipped his senior season with the Cardinal for a chance to turn pro.
